I see some people struggle when it comes to working out fuel loads, so this walkthrough will help you understand how to do this so you can try and become a strategy king/queen.
Ok lets start by seeing how we can tell how much fuel it will take per lap, click on practise, at the top left of the screen you will see something like.
Track: XXXXX
Laps: XX
Tyre wear: Normal
Weather: Dry
Fuel usage: 2.961 litres/lap
Pitlane length: Medium
Tyres usage: Okay
The parts that are under lined are the parts we are focusing on, now you can see the amount of fuel in litres each lap takes. For this track you will use 2.961 litres per lap.
So whats this all mean, well to work out how much fuel you will need get your calculator out and puntch in 2.961 now muliply that by the amount of laps you wish to do, remember you can only hold 100 litres of fuel anything over that and you will run out of fuel.
Here is how i did it, 2.961 X 20 = 59.22 litres
Ok you can't put 59.22 litres in as the litres go up in ones, for example 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc etc there is no 0.5 litres, so you would need to put in 60 litres of fuel, you can't put in less otherwise you will retire due to not enough fuel.
If for example you was pitting on lap 20 then you would need to put in 21 laps of fuel though which will work out as, 2.961 X 21 = 62.181 in our case 63 litres of fuel.
Don't worry you do not need to put in fuel to cover the qualifiying laps, they are added automatically and do not affect the fuel you have put in. You can carry fuel over to other pit stops if you wish, so for example you have put in 21 laps of fuel but pitted on lap 20, if you was going to pit again in another 20 laps time which would be lap 40 you would not need to put in another 21 laps of fuel, you would only need to put in fuel to cover 20 laps because you will still have that 1 extra lap of fuel you have put in to cover your first stint.
You can also carry extra fuel to help reduce the amount of time you will spend in the pits for the second pit stop, so you could do the following strategy.
1st pit stop: lap 20
2nd pit stop: lap 40
Now we know to do 20 laps you would need to put in 63 litres of fuel, but you still have room to carry a further 37 litres of fuel so you could if you wanted put enough fuel to do a further 12 laps taking your starting fuel up to 98 litres of fuel, and since your pitting on lap 20 you will only have to put in a further 24 litres of fuel as you already have the other 36 litres in the car.
So this means you will be heaver at the start of the race, but if everyone else is also heavy then you will not loose out too much and because you will spend less time in the pits you can get away with making up a lot of time on some teams and maybe even pulling away from many teams at the same time.
Hope this helps you, and remember every track has different amounts of litres needed per lap, so alway's look to see how much fuel you will need and double check your strategies before you log off, that way you can sort out any mistakes before its too late, i alway's check my strategies out several times because i have made little mistakes in the past that has cost me race finishes.
